驚悉我的老朋友和同事陸學(xué)藝教授離世了，我感到非常震驚和悲痛。就在去年夏天，我參加了他組織的盛大的國(guó)際會(huì)議，并在會(huì)議及其用餐期間曾幾度與他愉快地交談。他對(duì)社會(huì)學(xué)在中國(guó)的重建和發(fā)展的貢獻(xiàn)享譽(yù)海內(nèi)外，他的大量的著作等遺產(chǎn)定會(huì)被其學(xué)生和朋友繼承光大的。請(qǐng)轉(zhuǎn)達(dá)我對(duì)他的家人和同事致以哀悼。

Dear Prof. Li:
I am very shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of my old friend and colleague Prof Lu Xueyi. Just last summer I participated in a wonderful international conference which he organized and enjoyed many opportunities to talk with him over meals and at the meeting. His contributions to the revival and growth of Sociology in China are known and appreciated at home and abroad, and his many publications, students, and friends will surely carry on his legacy. Please extend my condolences to his family and colleagues.
